Spring Club Team Tryouts
Is your player interested in challenging their game and playing at a higher level? If YES - then you should join one of our Spring Club Teams! Attend our Club Team Tryouts in early March to be evaluated.
Legacy is excited to enter our 5th official Spring Season as a Club Team! We have continued to grow and develop over the past few years, and are excited to see our players compete again this spring! We are always looking for new athletes to add to our family. Come and check out what MDL has to offer and attend our Spring Club Team tryouts.
Club Team Tryout Details:
Who: u8, u10, u12, u14, u16 and u19 players
u8 Birth Dates: 8/2017 & younger
There are NO CUTS for our u8 athletes. They are asked to attend tryouts as an opportunity to play and for our coaches to meet them, but everyone who wants to play will have a spot on the team. The team will be limited to 12 athletes. Registering for tryouts will reserve your spot on the team.

u14 Birth Dates: 8/2011 - 7/2013

Spring Academy Leagues (3rd - 12th Grade)
Join us for our 1st annual Spring Academy Leagues! Our players had so much fun during the Winter Indoor Leagues - we have decided to offer a Spring League too! Our goal is to continue growing the sport of FH in Frederick, Carroll and Montgomery Counties by giving kids the opportunity to develop their skills (or learn a new sport!) year-round with our experienced coaches. Grab your friends and form your own team, or be placed on a team and make some new friends!
We developed our Academy League to help players hone their fundamental skills and to grow their hockey IQ in a fun League style setting. Teams will have clinic style practices where they can further develop their basic skills, and then compete as a team in League games. There may even be an option for teams and/or players to attend 1-2 local tournaments during the course of the Spring season. Get the club experience at a fraction of the price!

Elementary School (ES) Academy = 3rd - 5th Grade
Middle School (MS) Academy = 6th - 8th Grade
High School (HS) Academy = 9th - 12th Grade

Option #1 = 8 Weeks: 4/12 - 6/7 (No Academy Sun 5/24 due to Memorial Day Weekend)
2 Weeks = 1.5 hour Practice/Clinic
6 Weeks = League Games
Option #2 = 10 Weeks: 3/22 - 6/7 (No Academy Sun 4/5 (Easter) or Sun 5/24 (MDW))
4 Weeks = 1.5 hour Practices/Clinics
6 Weeks = League Games
Get 2 extra weeks of practice and skills development before the season begins!

Do Players need to have prior FH playing experience?
No! Prior playing experience is NOT required to play in any of our Spring Academies. We will teach you the fundamentals of FH, and hopefully help you fall in love with the game!
Field Hockey is still growing in Frederick County, so our goal is to get a field hockey stick in the hands of as many players as possible! Did you know that at least half of the HS teams in Frederick County don’t have enough players to form a JV team each season? We need to work together to FIX that problem! In order for FH to become more competitive in Frederick County, we need to grow FH so that EVERY HS team has a JV team where they can learn and develop their game before the Varsity level!
So long answer short - grab your friends (whether they have played FH before or not) and let’s grow FH together this winter!
Spring Hermit Crab League
MDL is excited to be hosting a Spring Hermit Crab League! We had so much fun this winter for our 1st annual Hermit Crab Indoor League - we want to continue building momentum with our littlest FH players this Spring! During the 1 hour session each week, we will be working on athletic movements and coordination, while also teaching them the basics of FH in a fun, learning environment!

PreK - 2nd Grade

League Set-up
The goal of the Hermit Crab League is for the kids to have fun and be active, while learning the basics of field hockey! Below is the 60min schedule for each session:
5:00 - 5:10 = Player/Coach intros and small group warm-up
5:10 - 5:15 = Athletic movement development (running, jumping, ladders, obstacle courses!)
5:20 - 5:35 = Learn a new skill each week using fun game/play based drills
5:40 - 6:00 = Game Play!
Depending on #s, we will play 3v3 or 4v4 and will have 2 fields going - so all kids will get a ton of touches on the ball and lots of fun game play!
